Talks

In 2023, Lucienne was invited to present three talks for the Art Gallery Of New South Wales called Literary Escapes to the South of France, a history of expat writers who moved to the French Riviera to live and work, including Graham Greene, Katherine Mansfield and F Scott Fitzgerald.

These talks were followed by a series called Blinded by the Light,150 Years of Impressionism in the South of France, to celebrate the 150th birthday of Impressionism, exploring why artists like Renoir, Matisse and Bonnard made the Riviera their home.

In 2024, Lucienne presented four talks on writers and their Connection to Place, from those who lived on Mediterranean Islands like Robert Graves, and George Johnson & Charmian Clift, to those who lived a large part of their lives in hotels, like Agatha Christie, Tennessee Williams and Vladimir Nabokov, and those who chose relative seclusion like  JD Salinger and Harper Lee. The talks examined how these life choices both influenced and inspired their work.

This year her talks will include A Riviera Reverie in March.

Listen to Lucienne

"I attended Lucienne’s talk at the Art Gallery on authors and their connection to place. I thoroughly enjoyed it - it was both informative and engaging. Lucienne brought the writers to life for us and we learned a lot about their lives and their working practices. It was well-researched, and Lucienne has a wonderful sense of humour which makes the talks even more enjoyable."
